The Floating Towns of Tomorrow

At today’s meeting, SFSS member Giuseppe Torrisi from Italy and several SFSS council members discussed the book co-authored by Torrisi and SFSS founding president Lim Soon Heng, which addresses floating homes and other floating solutions as options for Singapore and other places. Visit to ACE Floating Farm

On Saturday, 27 July 2024, SFSS organized an enriching visit to ACE®️ Floating Fish Farm, featuring the Eco-Ark and Eco-Spark structures. Participants gained a deeper understanding of sustainable seafood production, the importance of fish farming in Singapore’s food security, and the innovative use of floating structures. Highlights included an immersive tour through the tank tunnel, insights into fish lifecycles, and a delightful fish tasting session. Special thanks to CEO Leow Ban Tat for the guided tour, his wife Amy for her support, and SFSS leaders Stefan Huebner and Ivan Stoytchev for making the visit a success.


2024 Society of Floating Solutions (Singapore) Prize

On 3 May 2024, the Society of Floating Solutions (Singapore) Prize, donated to the Singapore Maritime Academy, was awarded to RAUNAK BRIJ S/O RENDERA SINGH from the Diploma in Marine Engineering. We congratulate him on his achievements and wish him all the best, now that he has graduated!

Official opening of Eco-Ark

19 November 2019

On 19 November 2019, Council Member Mr. Leow Ban Tat celebrated the official opening of Eco-Ark, his innovative floating fish farm. This closed-containment system, featuring four tanks, is designed to produce 166 metric tonnes of fish annually, including barramundi, red snapper, and grouper.

WCFS2019 spotlighted innovative floating solutions to address Singapore’s critical land scarcity and spatial challenges. With 25% of its land reclaimed and a population projected to reach 6.9 million by 2030, sustainable alternatives are crucial. The Society of Floating Solutions Singapore (SFSS) hosted the conference, building on earlier talks by experts like MIT’s Prof. Jacopo Buongiorno and collaborations with SINTEF Norway and Shimizu Japan. WCFS2019 brought together global professionals to explore floating infrastructure as a sustainable solution for urban, industrial, and energy needs, reinforcing Singapore’s position as a leader in addressing spatial challenges through cutting-edge innovations.


Floating Farms for a Sustainable Future Seminar

The Floating Farms Seminar showcased innovative solutions for food cultivation on sea, river, lake, and reservoir surfaces, addressing the challenges of shrinking farmland as populations migrate to coastal areas. Experts and practitioners shared advancements in applying Very Large Floating Structures (VLFS) technology to revolutionize food production. The seminar highlighted research, prototypes, and small-scale commercial applications of floating farms, drawing interest from government planners, food agencies, investors, engineers, architects, academics, and industry professionals. It offered a visionary platform for exploring sustainable food production on water as the next frontier in global agriculture.
