Criteria for the Award of SFSS Honorary Fellowship
Society of Floating Solutions, Singapore (SFSS)
The Honorary Fellowship is the highest recognition conferred by the Society of Floating Solutions, Singapore (SFSS). It is awarded to distinguished individuals who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to the advancement of floating solutions and related fields.
- Eligibility
Open to individuals of outstanding repute, regardless of nationality or professional background. Candidates need not be members of SFSS at the time of nomination. Typically reserved for leaders, innovators, or distinguished professionals in academia, industry, government, or international organizations. - Criteria of Merit
Candidates should have made exceptional contributions in one or more of the following areas: - Professional Excellence & Leadership – Demonstrated leadership in the conception, development, or implementation of floating solutions, offshore technologies, or maritime innovations. Held prominent roles in shaping the direction of the industry at national, regional, or global levels.
- Innovation & Research – Significant breakthroughs or pioneering work in engineering, design, sustainability, or application of floating infrastructure. Advancement of technical standards, safety protocols, or best practices for floating solutions.
- Public Service & Advocacy – Advocacy for sustainable use of marine space and promotion of floating solutions as viable responses to urbanization, climate change, or resource challenges. Advising governments or international bodies on policies or frameworks related to floating solutions.
- Contribution to the Society – Long-standing and impactful support to SFSS through knowledge-sharing, mentorship, partnership, or promotion of the Society’s objectives.
- Global Recognition – Recognition by peers, industry bodies, or professional societies for outstanding contributions to floating solutions or allied disciplines.
- Nomination & Selection Process
Nomination: Candidates may be nominated by at least two members of the Society.
Review: The Council and Office Holders of SFSS shall review nominations and assess them against the criteria of merit.
Approval: Conferment of the Honorary Fellowship shall require endorsement by at least two-thirds of the Council. Frequency: The award shall be conferred sparingly, typically to no more than one or two individuals annually, to preserve its prestige. - Privileges of Honorary Fellows
10-years recognition (open for renomination) as Honorary Fellows of SFSS. Invitation to deliver keynote addresses or lectures at SFSS events. Recognition in SFSS publications, website, and events. Exempted from membership dues but able to vote, if they are SFSS members. (Honorary Fellows who are not SFSS members have no voting rights but would be encouraged to join and then receive the membership dues exemption and voting rights.) - Expectations
Honorary Fellows are expected to uphold the values of the Society and serve as ambassadors for the advancement of floating solutions globally.

Professor Torgeir Moan
Professor Moan is a Professor of Marine Technology, and former Director of a Norwegian centre of research excellence CeSOS. Dr. Moan has served on the Royal Inquiry Commission of the Alexander L. Kielland accident and other accident inquiries and on various committees for the industry and standardization organisations for offshore structures (e.g. ISO, NORSOK); wind turbines (IEC) and floating bridges (NPRA). He has served as the inaugural adjunct Keppel professor at the National University of Singapore and has honorary academic positions at several leading Chinese universities.

Mr Tan Cheng Siong
Mr Tan is a pioneer architect of Singapore. He graduated in 1964 and later received his Master of Architecture and Urban Planning from the University of Singapore in 1972.
Among his many achievements he was awarded the following:
- The Distinguished Alumni Award, NUS (1999)
- The President’s Design Award, Designer of the Year (2012)
- The SIA Gold Medal Award, (2013)
- SIA Pioneer Architect Award, (2015)
- Singapore Design Golden Jubilee Award, (2015)

Mr Edward Wong
Mr Edward Wong is the Managing Director of AWP Pte Ltd, a leading firm of Architects, Urban Designers and Masterplanners, practicing in Singapore and the Region.
Among his many achievements he and his firm was awarded the following:
- Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Building Construction Authority (BCA), “Construction Excellence”,
“Best Buildable Design”, “Green Mark Platinum” - SIA Awards for
“Architectural Design”, “Facade Design”, “SIA Hunter Douglas” Award.
