Industry News: Mega Floating Solar Project to Power Singapore! ☀️💧
Singapore has just taken a massive step toward its clean energy future. The Energy Market Authority (EMA) has granted conditional approvals for the import of 900 MW of low-carbon electricity from Malaysia, targeting commercial operations by 2029.
For the floating infrastructure sector, the most exciting part of this development is how a significant portion of this power will be generated:
🔹 Linggiu Reservoir Floating Solar: Sembcorp Utilities’ 300 MW import allocation will be supported by a monumental floating solar photovoltaic (FPV) system planned for the Linggiu Reservoir in Johor, Malaysia.
🔹 Massive Scale: The floating solar project boasts a potential capacity of approximately 2.2 gigawatts-peak (GWp), coupled with up to 4.3 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of battery energy storage to ensure a stable cross-border supply.
🔹 Cross-Border Green Energy: This initiative highlights how floating solar isn’t just about localized power—it’s becoming a critical enabler for cross-border grid interconnectivity and ASEAN’s regional decarbonization strategy.
