Industry News: A Major Milestone for Deep-Sea Floating Wind! 🌬️🌊

We are excited to share a groundbreaking achievement in floating infrastructure! The world’s first 16-megawatt tension-leg platform (TLP) floating wind power unit has officially commenced operations in the South China Sea.

Operated by CNOOC and located in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, this towering structure represents a massive leap forward in offshore engineering and the global green energy transition.

Key engineering highlights:

🔹 Scale & Location: Operating 136 km offshore at a water depth of 136 meters.

🔹 Extreme Resilience: Engineered to withstand extreme Category 17 typhoons, boasting an operational lifespan of 25 years.

🔹 Environmental Impact: Supplies 54 million kWh of green electricity annually to the Lufeng Oilfield grid—saving 15,000 cubic meters of fuel oil and cutting 35,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year.

🔹 Innovative TLP Design: Tension-leg platforms are internationally recognized as highly complex floating assets. Compared to semi-submersible platforms, this TLP structure offers exceptional stability, lower steel consumption per MW, and a significantly smaller sea-use footprint.
