T Engineering’s Marine business and Siemens Energy have been awarded a contract by Transcontinental Capital Corporation (Bermuda), a subsidiary of Seaboard Corporation, to deliver Estrella del Mar IV, a barge-mounted power plant to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
Based on the successful Estrella del Mar III commissioned in 2022, the new 145 MW combined cycle plant will feature Siemens Energy’s SGT-800 gas turbines, an SST-600 steam turbine, and lithium-ion battery storage.
Constructed in Singapore, the Estrella del Mar IV will be a plug-and-play floating facility designed to reduce both cost and construction time compared to a land-based power plant. Once completed in 2028, it will operate alongside its predecessor to strengthen the Dominican Republic’s energy infrastructure with improved efficiency, flexibility, and resilience.
The project demonstrates how floating power plants can overcome land and infrastructure constraints, while contributing to global efforts toward more sustainable energy generation.
