Morocco Deploys Floating Solar Panels to Protect Water Reserves Amid Drought

Post Date:

Facing its worst drought in decades, Morocco has launched a pilot project using floating solar panels, or “floatovoltaics,” at a major reservoir near Tangier. The panels cover the water surface, reducing evaporation caused by intense sunlight, while simultaneously generating electricity.

The energy produced is expected to power the neighboring Tanger Med port complex. Authorities hope that if the pilot proves successful, the technology could be scaled up, offering a dual solution for water conservation and renewable energy generation in the North African kingdom.
