Floating solar capacity raised in 4th GEA round

Post Date:

The Philippine Department of Energy has increased the capacity offered for floating solar projects in the 4th Green Energy Auction (GEA-4) to meet growing regional demand and investor interest.

An additional 175 MW of floating solar in the Visayas has been added, bringing the total renewable energy capacity on offer to 10,653 MW, including ground-mounted, rooftop, and wind projects.

The DoE also spread out the Luzon floating solar target over 2027–2029, giving developers more time to prepare and improve feasibility — underscoring strong institutional support for innovative renewable solutions.

Analysts hailed this move as a step toward diversifying the Philippines’ energy mix, improving sustainability, and positioning the country at the forefront of RE innovation.
