Norway opens floating offshore wind tender

Post Date:

In a major step toward commercial floating offshore wind, Norway has kicked off its first tender round, offering project rights for up to 500 MW at the Utsira Nord site.

🕒 Developers will have two years to mature their projects before competing in a 2028–2029 subsidy auction, backed by up to NOK 35 billion (USD 3.37B) in state support.

This tailored support model—approved by the EFTA Surveillance Authority—aims to accelerate cost reductions and innovation for floating wind, especially in deeper waters where bottom-fixed solutions aren’t viable.

A significant milestone for the energy transition in the North Sea and beyond. ⚡
