Ghana launches West Africa’s largest floating solar project!

A 5 MW floating solar installation on the Black Volta River — engineered by Ghanaian experts at Bui Power Authority — is now online, marking a major milestone in Ghana’s energy transition.

This is a pioneering step towards increasing the country’s renewable share from 1% to 10% by 2030. Plans are underway to expand this floating solar plant to 65 MW. Beyond solar, Ghana is investing in wind, mini-hydro, and rooftop installations across the country.

Floating solar solutions help optimise land use, conserve water, and boost panel efficiency — a smart move for clean, sustainable growth.
