While US tariffs on Chinese solar firms ripple across Southeast Asia, Indonesia is charting a different course—embracing investment and regulatory reforms to become the region’s next solar powerhouse.

Jakarta is actively attracting Chinese solar manufacturers by loosening local content requirements and facilitating billions in renewable energy investments. With over 22.9 GW of solar capacity in the pipeline, Indonesia is betting big on becoming a major hub for solar cell and panel production—much of it destined for the United States.
