French startup Denv-R has launched a 200kW floating data center on the Loire River in Nantes — a milestone in sustainable digital infrastructure. Housed in a solar-covered 100 sqm container, the facility passively uses river water for cooling, eliminating the need for energy-intensive air conditioning.
Designed with Geps Techno, the platform is said to be “unsinkable”, and offers a land-saving, energy-efficient alternative for urban settings. Offshore versions powered by ocean swell are in the pipeline.
As interest grows globally in floating and water-cooled data centers — from California to Singapore — Denv-R’s innovation signals a bold step forward in sustainable urban tech.
