Philippine renewable energy firm SunAsia Energy and Vietnam’s VinEnergo have just announced a strategic partnership to develop a massive $406 million, 422-MWp Solar-on-Water portfolio in the Philippines.
Targeted for commercial operation between 2027 and 2028 across Pampanga and Negros Occidental, this cross-border venture represents one of the largest floating solar pipelines in Southeast Asia.
Why this project is a game-changer for smart infrastructure:
“Solar on Stilts” Technology: The solar panels will be elevated on concrete pile structures over existing water bodies. This allows vital aquaculture and fishpond operations to continue uninterrupted beneath them.
The Food-Energy-Water Nexus: By pairing clean energy generation with active aquaculture, the project maximizes land-use efficiency and protects traditional local livelihoods.
Massive Impact: Once operational, the nearly 700,000 solar panels will power 278,000 homes annually while avoiding 460,888 tons of carbon emissions.
