The AI boom is running out of space and power on land. The solution? Taking it offshore. 🌊🖥️

As global tech giants face severe land shortages and grid bottlenecks for their massive AI data centers, a new infrastructure frontier is emerging: Floating Data Centers (FDCs).

Samsung Heavy Industries is leading the charge, having just signed an MOU with Greek shipowner Capital Clean Energy Carriers to commercialize these offshore computing hubs.

Here is why this intersection of maritime and digital infrastructure is a game-changer:
-Bypassing Gridlock: FDCs can be deployed in coastal areas or ports, avoiding the years-long delays associated with land-based grid interconnections.
-Natural Cooling: Using seawater as a primary cooling source dramatically reduces the massive power consumption typically required to keep AI servers from overheating.
-A New Business Model: For shipowners, leasing an FDC to a cloud operator provides a highly stable, long-term revenue stream—a welcome shift from the notoriously volatile freight cycles of traditional shipping.

With a 50 MW-class FDC design already approved and an LOI signed with OpenAI last year, Samsung is proving that the future of smart infrastructure isn’t just on land.
