The article reports that China has installed what is described as the world’s largest offshore converter station for the Jiangsu Rudong offshore wind project in the Yellow Sea. The China Classification Society called it a major milestone for deep-water wind power, noting that it is China’s first offshore ±400 kV flexible DC transmission project and an Asian first.

The station will collect 1,100 MW of electricity from three offshore wind farms, convert it into DC power, and transmit it about 100 km to shore through submarine cables—the longest such transmission distance in China at the time. Once fully operational, the project is expected to supply enough electricity for about 1.36 million households annually.

The structure itself is massive: it weighs 22,000 tons and is roughly as tall as a 15-story residential building. It was commissioned by China Three Gorges Corporation and jointly built by Three Gorges Energy, China General Nuclear New Energy, and Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries.
