France has announced tenders for seven offshore wind projects totaling 10GW, alongside additional tenders for solar and onshore wind. The move forms part of the country’s wider strategy to accelerate renewable energy deployment and strengthen energy sovereignty.

According to the report, France’s 10-year energy planning law calls for 15GW of offshore wind capacity to be installed by 2035, compared with less than 2GW currently. The newly announced tenders also include 1.2GW of solar capacity and 0.8GW of onshore wind.

The French government has also introduced criteria intended to support domestic and European supply chains. Future bids are expected to include requirements related to European-sourced components, sustainability, and cybersecurity, with limits on the use of certain strategic components from China.

The announcement highlights the growing importance of offshore wind in Europe’s energy transition, as countries seek to expand renewable energy capacity while strengthening industrial resilience and reducing dependence on imported energy.
