China Outpaces the US in Global Clean Tech Exports

China has emerged as the leader in global clean energy exports, surpassing the US in value and volume. In 2025, China exported $120 billion worth of solar panels, batteries, electric vehicles, and other carbon-cutting technologies, compared to $80 billion in fossil fuel exports from the US.

The export boom reflects China’s growing influence in emerging markets, where more than half of its EV exports are now heading. Despite falling technology prices, the country continues to ship record volumes of solar and wind equipment abroad.

Clean tech exports offer a long-term energy advantage, providing electricity for decades, unlike fossil fuels that are consumed immediately. Analysts say China’s position in clean tech could continue to grow as global demand for low-carbon technologies rises.
