US-based Third Pillar Solar and Diamond Infrastructure Solutions have teamed up to explore utility-scale floating solar projects in Texas. This initiative leverages previously untapped water surfaces to generate up to 500 MW of renewable energy, addressing both energy needs and water conservation by mitigating evaporation losses — potentially saving around 15% of freshwater.
The projects, scheduled for completion by 2030, will also create local jobs and integrate local supply chains, transforming underutilized water surfaces into sustainable energy assets. With an estimated investment exceeding $700 million, this will become the largest floating solar installation in the Americas, demonstrating the potential of floating solar for land preservation, clean energy, and water conservation.
