The global energy landscape is undergoing a necessary and urgent transformation. As highlighted in The Star, achieving the energy trilemma—energy security, sustainability, and affordability—requires embracing major disruptions to traditional systems.
Key strategies like decentralization are empowering individuals and communities to become energy prosumers, reducing reliance on centralized fossil-fuel systems. Innovations such as rooftop solar, bioenergy, and floating solar farms are already making waves across Asia.
At the same time, decarbonisation efforts are unlocking new economic and environmental opportunities. Floating energy solutions—solar, wind, and even nuclear—are increasingly being recognised as scalable and adaptive infrastructure for resilient cities and off-grid communities.
At SFSS, we’ve been actively exploring these themes. In late February, we hosted a webinar on floating solar potentials in Southeast Asia, where experts from industry and academia discussed how floating solar can play a vital role in diversifying the region’s renewable energy mix.
