Westinghouse and Core Power Partner for Floating Nuclear Power Plants

Post Date:

Westinghouse Electric Company and Core Power are teaming up to design and develop floating nuclear power plants using the eVinci microreactor, promising to bring reliable, clean energy to remote areas, coastal communities, ports, and industries.

Key Highlights:

  • Scalable Clean Energy: The eVinci microreactor is a compact, factory-assembled system that can provide up to 5 megawatts of electricity for 8+ years without refueling.
  • Shipyard Efficiency: Leveraging shipyard manufacturing ensures scalable, turnkey solutions, enabling rapid deployment to sites where power is needed most.
  • Innovative Technology: Utilizing heat pipe systems eliminates the need for water cooling, offering a low-maintenance, efficient solution for floating applications.
  • Global Applications: Floating reactors offer potential for disaster relief, industrial heat production (e.g., hydrogen), and reliable power for remote and space-constrained areas.

This collaboration joins a growing list of projects, such as Samsung’s molten salt reactor concept and Crowley’s partnership with BWX Technologies, all aiming to launch floating nuclear solutions by the 2030s.
