Ulsan City Signs LOI to Build World’s Largest Floating Offshore Wind Farm

Post Date:

Ulsan City has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with four consortiums, including Norway’s Equinor-led Firefly Floating Wind Farm, Denmark’s Haeuli Offshore Wind Power, Spain’s KF Wind, and the Korea-UK-France Gray Whale Offshore Wind Farm, to build the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm. This ambitious project will generate 6.2 GW of power, equivalent to six nuclear power plants, with an investment of 37.2 trillion won.

Key Highlights:

  • Global Partnerships: International energy leaders are collaborating with local players, bringing advanced technology and capital to South Korea.
  • Renewable Innovation: The floating wind farm utilizes cutting-edge technology to harness strong, consistent wind speeds in deeper waters off Ulsan’s coast.
  • Economic & Environmental Impact: The project will boost Ulsan’s shipbuilding industry and support South Korea’s energy transition policy, aiming to reduce reliance on nuclear and coal power.

The wind farm is expected to be operational by 2031, positioning Ulsan as a global hub for offshore wind energy. 🌊
